"Salvador Dali"
"Surrealism"
A movement in art and literature that flourished in the early twentieth century. Surrealism aimed at expressing imaginative dreams and
visions free from conscious rational control. Dali was an influential surrealist painter; Jean Cocteau was a master of surrealist film.
The students were asked to take an "Art Walk" and discuss in their groups what they observed and why they thought the paintings were so different from any works they had seen before. The pieces used were by Salvador Dali. They had no idea what they were observing, as there were no titles, what the style was called, or why they were so different. A lot of great dialogue took place over this short period of time. Below are the pieces that were used. Watch as our Art Walk unfolds. Read which pieces made the greatest impact on the children, and then take a look at their creative expression in the world of "surrealism." Enjoy!
